The Framers [of the Constitution] knew that free speech is the friend of change and revolution. But they also knew that it is always the deadliest enemy of tyranny.

Who do they think they are, electing?

Remember all of those naysayers who believe that elections in some of these far off lands that have long been oppressed did not want or understand elections? Well, election fever seems to be infectious, and it is spreading.

Now that Yasser Arafat has passed, 10 men are running for his position, running as in an election. They are fighting over the elections in Ukraine, and the corruption, while the solution seems to be more elections. Mozambique is figuring out how to have their elections. George Bush is sending another 12,000 troops to Iraq, promising that we will help the Iraqis have an election and bring the troops home. (Let’s hope the Iraq elections are as successful as the recent Afghan elections.) How dare these people, voting and running their own countries.

Yes, election fever is spreading, which means, perhaps, that many, including George Bush, may have been right; men are born free, and if government must exist, they would like to have a say in the process, self-govern.

Be patient. Soon, they will learn how to impose their view on others, and form their intolerance as a betterment of society. But, baby steps first… baby steps.
