New Rules: Doctors Cannot Tell Patients Truth
What do you call it when a doctor may be punished for telling an obese patient the consequences of their fatness?
”I told a fat woman she was obese," Bennett said. ''I tried to get her attention. I told her, 'You need to get on a program, join a group of like-minded people, and peel off the weight that is going to kill you.'” [Read]
She filed a complaint. He capitulated slightly and sent her a letter of apology, but that seems to be as far as he is willing to go, rejecting a proposal that he attend an education course and acknowledge his “mistake.”
Let us hope that Dr. Terry Bennett puts up a good fight and wins, and if you don’t like what he has to say about your hugeness, go see someone who will tell you what you want to hear — lies: “Sure, have a Twinkie, their packed with vitamins.”
It’s your world, and apparently you live with a lot of idiots.
Would he be in trouble if he lied to his patients?
