“She Will Be Confirmed”

It is not the first time, nor the last, the President has been wrong, but when he said emphatically, “She will be confirmed,” most people believed she was going to be confirmed. Would she have been a great justice? We’ll never know.

Whether or not Harriet Miers was a good choice, we will never know, not even slightly — she never made it to hearings. At least if she had made it to hearings, we would have had an idea of her ability to think under pressure. We might have learned a little something. Some of the things out there suggested she might have been a freedom minded justice who was not interested in legislating from the bench, but interested in the rights and freedoms of the individual. We will never know, because none of this was about Harrier Miers, it was about George Bush.

George Bush has faced a revolt from some on the right. “How dare he pick someone we had not considered,” was their whining rant, with lots of intellectual BS rhetoric thrown in so it would not sound whiney, but it was. He has the right to pick anyone he chooses, and let’s hear the selection out at hearings. Those who whined are not going to be consulted by George for the next pick; he’s a stubborn man, and now he’s pissed.

For those trying to ensure George Bush finds a pick to overturn Roe vs. Wade, use your brain. Not only is it a single issue, it is the wrong issue. Abortion is never going away, ever. Never. You can now abort a pregnancy with a pill, and technology will only make aborting a pregnancy easier. Now, if you find a justice who will ensure the states have their full and complete rights as states reinstated, you may be able to get a state to outlaw abortion, but that’s about as good as it will get, and the (R)epublicans will be out of power for a very, very, very long time.

Find a good justice, and let’s hear what they have to say at the hearings. Who is next? Will it be someone that makes the (R)ight and the left wishing they has listened to what Harriet Miers had to say?
